  • The Art Students League of Denver was founded in 1987 with a handful of recognized artists teaching 100 students each year. Today, the League engages over 800 students a month in diverse fine arts classes throughout the year.

    Situation:

    The development team needed a grant writer to help manage the grant processes and apply for available art funding.

    Solution:

    Canopy advisor Jennifer Kelly was hired as an outsourced grant writer to tell the ASLD story in a compelling and inspired manner.   • The Colorado African Organization (CAO) advances the cause of integration for African refugees and immigrants in Colorado by fostering education, self-sufficiency, and empowerment.

    Situation:

    The organization's Executive Director left in the summer of 2014 without a replacement lined up.

    Solution:

    CAO looked to Canopy Advisory Group to find an Interim Executive Director; they hired advisor Jennifer Freeman to serve in that capacity. She led the organization's internal team, ensured they stayed compliant with any state or federal grants, and helped restructure their financial systems and fundraising strategy.

  • The Colorado Bar Association Foundation promotes the advancement of jurisprudence and the administration of justice in Colorado through grants to help educate the general public and provide assistance to the State's legal institutions.

    Situation:

    The Foundation's Board wanted to assess the organization’s current activities, receive recommendations for improvement to support the foundation's goals, and raise awareness and visibility of the Colorado Bar Association Foundation.

    Solution:

    The Board engaged Canopy advisor Kate Kalstein for strategic planning and organizational support regarding their programs and policies.

  • Denver Public Schools (DPS) received a grant in 2010 to increase student engagement in sports, activities, and college readiness programming at the high school level.

    Situation:

    DPS needed a strategic plan for the grant to ensure the sustainability of the new programming for years to come.

    Solution:

    Situation:

    To attract the right talent, as well as clients, FRB engaged Canopy Advisory Group’s Liesa Taylor to develop a strategic HR plan and assist with recruiting, and Kecia Carroll to develop a cohesive marketing plan and brand strategy.     Situation:

    The owners of Glacier needed outsourced marketing support to introduce the store to a new neighborhood and develop long-term communication within the community.

    Solution:

    Canopy Advisor Hillary Schubach, having more than 10 years of specialized experience in food and beverage marketing, was engaged to prepare an effective neighborhood-based marketing plan to drive sales and raise community awareness in the Englewood/Cherry Hills area.

  • Founded by Dickson Griswold in 2011, Highwater Wealth Management, LLC, is a wealth advisory firm based in Denver, dedicated to helping clients invest wisely and plan thoroughly for their long term financial success.

    Situation:

    Highwater Wealth Management relocated to Denver after Hurricane Katrina. As a newly relocated, but established business in the region, the founder was looking for ways to increase exposure to his firm and needed the expertise of a public relations specialist.

    Solution:

    The founder hired Canopy to write a press release, pitch his story, and give media training to him prior to any newspaper interviews. A Canopy advisor was able to get Highwater Wealth Management a full-page article in the Denver Business Journal, resulting in tremendous positive attention for the company.

  • The mission of the Impact Finance Center (IFC) is to catalyze investments that produce enduring value for the investor, society, and the environment.

    Situation:

    IFC had an opportunity to apply for a large grant from Partners in Places, a program of the MacArthur Foundation. However, the grant was cumbersome and had a quick turnaround time. In addition, IFC offers a complex value proposition.

    Solution:

    IFC called Canopy for support. Grant writer Jennifer Kelly was able to develop and synthesize the complex content and a unique partnership with local government to write a compelling story for the organization. She is now writing additional grants and editing IFC communications on an ongoing basis.

  • KIPP Colorado Schools is a network of three high performing charter schools serving low-income income students in West Denver and Montbello.

    Situation:

    The two person development team did not have the bandwidth to organize a large fundraising event but wanted to offer a high caliber program to their existing and potential funders.

    Solution:

    KIPP looked to Canopy advisor Jamie Wagner to help coordinate the overall fundraising event logistics, provide support for sponsor solicitation, and to coordinate the overall look and feel of the luncheon.

  • Lario Oil & Gas Company is an independent exploration and production company with a long history including over 100 years operating in the United States.

    Situation:

    Lario needed to refresh and update its website; it also required assistance with various marketing tasks that were not currently under the domain of a particular Lario employee.

    Solution:

    Lario engaged Canopy's Megan Zacher for the website overhaul and Canopy's Jennifer Kelly to assist the CEO in various marketing initiatives including review and editing of Lario's annual report and streamlining monthly engineering reports.

  • MCA Denver is a cutting edge museum for contemporary art that inspires and challenges visitors through exhibitions and public educational programs.

    Situation:

    MCA's development team needed to fill two positions: an annual fund/individual giving officer and an interim grants writer to cover a team member's maternity leave.

    Solution:

    Canopy’s Vanessa Pierce (fundraising strategy and execution) and Jennifer Kelly (grant writer) are working with the team on an interim basis to ensure the MCA's fundraising plan moves forward until the permanent hires are in place. Vanessa is supporting the team on individual giving efforts and helping with the individual giving officer search process. Jennifer is overseeing the existing grants calendar and helping research potential other sources of funds for the museum.

  • Spex is a Denver-based start-up housed at Galvanize that has built a digital platform for the insurance adjuster community.

    Situation:

    In an industry whose processes have not evolved much beyond graph paper and a digital camera, Spex iPad/iphone app streamlines the way that data is collected in the most accurate and efficient manner possible.

    Solution:

    Canopy advisors Abby Hagstrom and Amanda Demarest designed and executed a strategic PR campaign centered around: (1) positioning Spex as the industry’s leading property inspection technology, (2) showcasing Spex executives as thought leaders and experts in the field; and (3) spreading awareness about the Spex platform among large insurance firms, small claim services companies, and independent adjusters.

  • Teach For America's mission is to eliminate educational inequity by enlisting high-achieving recent college graduates and professionals to teach for at least two years in low-income communities throughout the United States.

    Situation:

    Teach for America Colorado's VP of External Affairs looked to Canopy for interim leadership support to fill her role once she left the organization. The organization was committed to creating a thoughtful, smooth transition in this important area of growth and advancement.

    Solution:

    Canopy's Erin McLain was hired as the interim Development Director in order to move the strategic development plan forward, provide mentorship and coaching to direct reports, lead weekly team meetings, and provide strategic support for the organization’s 2016 gala.

  • The Joshua School (TJS) was created in 2005 by six Special Educators working in a classroom for children with autism spectrum disorders and developmental disabilities in the public schools. At the time, it was becoming clear that a smaller school with a controlled environment, budget, and personnel would have a more significant impact than what was possible in a larger system.

    Situation:

    The school had an open position for a Development Director but wasn't finding the right applicant from the talent pool it was attracting.

    Solution:

    TJS's Executive Director called on Canopy to look for interim support until the full-time development role was filled. Canopy advisor Lisa Mattis served as the organization's Interim Development Director for the 2015-2016 school year.
