Ken, a businessman, community leader and third generation Coloradan, was the 2000 Democratic nominee for the U. S. House of Representatives in Colorado’s 6th Congressional District. Ken relocated and has made his home in Boulder since 2013 where he has been an active member of the Boulder and CU Boulder community.
Previously Ken was the President of Dependable Southwest Inc., owning and operating 7 Dependable Cleaners in southwest Denver, Lakewood, Littleton and Evergreen.
Ken’s business experience ranges from small entrepreneurial businesses, large corporations to owning his own business. He has held significant marketing and management positions over his business career in financial services, consumer products and consumer services. Ken held management positions with United Banks of Colorado, Brothers Gourmet Coffees and Dependable Cleaners.
Ken has linked business and community interests through his service on the boards of several local business, community and national organizations. Ken has served on the board of the Denver-Boulder Better Business Bureau and the Anti-Defamation League. He also served on the board of the Corporate Alliance for Better Air and was appointed to the Citizens Advisory Panel for the Colorado Department of Health and Environment, a position mandated by the Clean Air Act. Ken was a founding board member of Colorado Ceasefire a statewide gun violence prevention grassroots organization, and also served as a board member for Colorado Conservation Voters (Conservation Colorado) and for Front Range Economic Strategy Center (FRESC). As a member of the Denver Chamber of Commerce, Ken sat on the Labor Task Force – Metro Denver Network, and served on the Public Affairs Committee. Ken has worked to recognize area business leaders on the selection committee of the Colorado Ethics in Business Awards. In 2013 Ken founded and is now co-chair of Safe Campus Colorado, a grassroots citizens organization dedicated to getting concealed guns off Colorado’s college/university campuses.
As a writer over the past several years, Ken has contributed numerous op-eds and columns to a range of publications including Huffington Post, The Hill, Newsweek, Times of Israel and many Colorado newspapers. Ken's interest in government began in high school when he served as an intern in the Colorado State Legislature. Ken then went on to work with several local campaigns including; Carlos Lucero, candidate for the U.S. Senate and David Skaggs successful campaign for U.S. Congress. Ken also served as Deputy National Finance Director for Senator Gary Hart's 1984 presidential campaign.
Early in his career, Ken worked in the legislative department of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee in Washington, D.C. Following his work with AIPAC, Ken became the Director of Washington Political Action Committee. He is also a founding Colorado member of the National Jewish Democratic Coalition. Ken is currently involved with both AIPAC and JStreet helping support a close US-Israel relationship.
Ken was born and raised in Southeast Denver, educated in the Denver Public Schools, graduating from George Washington High School. He holds a B.A. from the University of Colorado - Boulder and an MBA from the University of Denver. Ken is very proud of his two daughters, Ali and Leigh who are both working to complete graduate degrees.
