Maren S.

Nonprofit Consulting

University of Denver School of Law, Denver, Colorado - JD
University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas - BS Journalism

Maren is a respected and effective leader with significant executive experience, primarily in the nonprofit sector, and extensive connections in the community. Most recently, she was hired to significantly grow a sole practitioner’s consulting business into a viable boutique firm. She recruited a senior-level team, created a brand, and increased the client base in terms of both breadth and depth. In addition to representing the firm externally and expanding its reach and visibility in the community, Maren directed efforts on public engagement campaigns and initiatives for a variety of clients.

Maren served as the first President and CEO of LiveWell Colorado, where she led efforts to build the organization from the ground up, including setting a vision, developing strategies, building a team and board of directors, creating a brand, and fostering partnerships. Under her leadership, LiveWell Colorado launched the only statewide, comprehensive, multi-sector obesity prevention movement in the nation.

Previously, she served as the Vice President of External Affairs at The Children’s Hospital for nearly 12 years where she was a member of the Executive Senior Management team and led efforts in the areas of public policy, advocacy, strategic communications, marketing, branding, and community relations.

Civic and community engagement are priorities for Maren and she has served on the board of directors for numerous nonprofit organizations in Colorado and at the national level. Currently, she is a mayoral appointment to the Denver Commission on Cultural Affairs and the funding & governance committee for The Next Stage. She also serves on the National Advisory Council for Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters, and the board of directors for the Global Livingston Institute and SLC Health – front range Governors from both political parties have appointed her to several advisory boards and councils.

Maren was named a Livingston Fellow by the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation in 2012. She was recognized as a Women of Distinction by the Colorado Girl Scouts and as a 40 Under 40 leader by the Denver Business Journal. She is a member of the Colorado Women’s Forum.
